FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

The questions we hear most. If something here doesn't cover what you're after, the contact page has a form.

  1. Question 01

How can I book an appointment?

Each artist books their own appointments individually through email. Books open periodically throughout the year — meaning each artist only accepts booking requests during a specific window. To know when an artist's books open, join the studio mailing list (linked in the footer) or follow the artist on Instagram. Their handles live on the Artists page.

  2. Question 02

Can I bring a guest to my appointment?

We ask that you come alone unless previously agreed upon. We try to limit the number of people in the workspace to keep things calm for everyone. If you have a disability and require assistance, you are welcome to bring that person or service animal — please let us know ahead of time so we can accommodate you well.

  3. Question 03

    Do you accept walk-ins?

We work by appointment only. The studio door is locked at all times — please call (226) 647-8286 from outside on arrival and we will let you in. The phone number is also posted on the door. If an artist has a last-minute slot, we typically post about it on the studio Instagram story, so it's worth a follow if you're hoping to get in without a pre-booked appointment.

  4. Question 04

    Where can I park?

We do not have our own lot, but options nearby include free street parking for up to 2 hours, City Hall underground (entrance on Young St.) at $15 for the day, and the Jack Burger lot on Duke St. at $8 cash for the day. We are also right by City Hall Station and a short walk from Frederick Station, so transit is easy.

  5. Question 05

What payment methods do you accept?

Debit, credit, cash, and e-transfer. If paying by cash please bring exact-ish — we don't always have change on hand. For e-transfer please be prepared to show your artist proof that the transfer has been sent.

  6. Question 06

    Do I need a deposit?

Yes — once your artist confirms a date, a deposit secures the appointment. The deposit comes off the final price of the tattoo on the day. Reschedules with reasonable notice (or for illness) keep your deposit. No-shows forfeit it.

  7. Question 07

How old do I need to be?

You must be 18 or older to be tattooed at Gauntlet. We require government-issued photo ID at the appointment.

  8. Question 08

Can I bring my own design?

Yes — your artist will work with your reference and adapt it into their own style. The artists at Gauntlet do custom work; they will not produce a one-to-one copy of another tattooer's piece, but they love a strong reference deck.
